Yonkers has renamed New School Street to honor fallen veteran firefighter Patrick Joyce Jr.

In 2009, 39-year-old Patrick Joyce Jr. and two others jumped 30 feet to escape a fire they were called to put out on Waverly Street.

The two other firefighters survived, but Joyce died from his injuries. He left behind his wife and two daughters.

Raphael Roldan, convicted of setting the fire, is now serving 20 years to life.

The new sign sits on the corner of the new fire station, which is in its final stages of construction.
