Phoenix Transportation Services officials say the county terminated its five-year, $14 million contract with the bus company as of Monday at 11:59 p.m.

The bus company owners say they were in the third year of the five-year agreement to transport homeless children from shelters to schools and foster children to see their biological families.

The company says it should have received 30 days’ notice before its contract was pulled.

The county issued a statement saying “Unfortunately, Phoenix breached the contract with the county, and due to that breach the county took appropriate legal steps to terminate the contract. The county’s top priority is that children in our care that rely on this service receive reliable and safe transportation.”

Phoenix Transportation Services co-owner Marlaina Koller says that the

multimillion-dollar contract with the county is the bus company’s only contract.

Employees at Phoenix Transportation Services say they don’t know what they’re going to do next.

Phoenix Bus Company officials say it serviced 50 routes in Westchester, transporting roughly 400 children a day.
