Yonkers Police arrest man wanted for knifepoint bank robbery

YONKERS – A New Rochelle man is under arrest, charged with the armed robbery of the Wells Fargo bank branch at 12 South Broadway in Yonkers on Thursday, August 22.

Henry Nieves, 51, was arrested on Monday, August 26 while riding on a Bee-Line bus.

Nieves approached a teller while armed with a knife and demanded money. The man, who was wearing what appeared to be hospital scrubs and no shoes, made off with over $2,700 in cash.

Using surveillance images and other technology, he was identified and a countywide search began. On this past Monday, Nieves went back into the bank and walked out, but was recognized and followed by a bank employee who saw him board the bus.

Officers located the vehicle and apprehended Nieves, who had facial injuries unrelated to the bank robbery one week earlier or his arrest. He was sent to the Westchester County Jail pending future court action.
