Port Jervis, Yonkers get state funding to remove lead serve water lines

ALBANY – The cities of Port Jervis and Yonkers will each receive $603,855 from the state to replace residential drinking water lead service lines through a state Department of Health program.

Port Jervis Mayor Kelly Decker said the money will be helpful in ridding the old water pipes in the city.

“It can be used for the main source of water to the curb or form the curb to a house,” Decker said. “We will have to go through that process, but it is encouraging that the City of Port Jervis has received this grant from the state for clean water.”

In a previous round of lead abatement funding from Albany, the cities of Poughkeepsie, Newburgh, Kingston and Middletown each received $548,422.
