WHITE PLAINS – A Yonkers man was sentenced in Westchester County Court on Friday to 19 years to life in prison for shooting a truck driver to death as the man was getting into his truck in Yonkers in March 2018.
Heriberto Morales, 33, admitted killing Timothy Conkling, 36, a driver for a private carting company. He pled guilty to murder and criminal possession of a firearm in April.
In the courtroom on Friday, Conkling’s wife and two daughters made emotional statements regarding the impact his murder had on their lives and the deep loss the suffered. Mrs. Conkling told Morales, “While 19 years may seem long to you and your family, you will breathe, eat, have visits and phone calls with your loved ones while our family will have to learn to cope with the silence.”
On March 1, 2018, Conkling’s body was found on Ashburton Avenue in Yonkers around 10:50 a.m. He had been shot once in the head. Morales shot the victim from an apartment window adjacent to the parking lot where Conkling’s truck was parked.
Morales was arrested the same day. Video surveillance helped Yonkers Police piece together how the shooting happened and how Morales made his way from the scene.
