YONKERS – Police are looking for a 15-year-old Yonkers boy who is wanted for the murder of a girl in that city.
Two groups had argued on a city street last Thursday when one person pulled out a gun and shot at the others. The bullet struck and killed Marilyn Montanez, 18.
On Monday, police said they are looking for Jamir Thompson, 15, who is wanted in the fatal shooting.
Investigation revealed Thompson had forcibly taken a gold chain from another person and that individual, Thompson and others argued in the area of Lake Avenue at Morningside Avenue. That is where police believe Thompson pulled out a gun and fired at least one shot in the direction of the other group with the bullet striking and killing Montanez, an unintended target and innocent victim. A 9mm bullet casing was recovered from the scene.
Thompson fled the scene and is believed to be in hiding. He may have received help from others, police said. He may have fled to the New York metropolitan area, according to investigators. Yonkers Police are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the areas of Thompson. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call the detective division at 914-337-7725. All calls will remain confidential.
