YONKERS – Members of the Yonkers Police Department responded shortly after noon today to the Wells Fargo Bank branch at 500 Odell Avenue on a report of a suspicious duffle bag left in the area.
Members of the Emergency Service Unit located the bag on the west side of the building adjacent to a garbage dumpster.
Officers tested the air quality for the presence of a possible explosive device, and with negative results began to inspect the contents of the bag; discovering apparent human remains.
The area was cordoned off and a criminal investigation was initiated.
Detectives from the Major Case Unit and Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene, interviewing subjects and witnesses, canvassing for surveillance video, and processing forensic evidence.
Yonkers Police investigators will work closely with the Westchester County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the identity of the victim, cause of death, and possible location of occurrence.
This investigation is in the beginning stages, and as such information is limited but this Department will release updates when available.
