Yonkers man sentenced for attempted murder of woman

WHITE PLAINS – A Yonkers man was sentenced on Monday in Westchester County Court to 10 years in state prison for attempted murder in a stabbing in Hastings-on-Hudson.

Judge Susan Capeci sentenced David Rojas for stabbing a former girlfriend with an icepick 14 times in the abdomen and chest while they were parked in her car on Saw Mill River Road in Hastings-on-Hudson on November 13, 2017.

The victim fled the vehicle and ran on the road waiving down passing motorists for help. Rojas drove off in the woman’s car but circled back several times looking for her.

A passing motorist saw the victim and stopped to help her. He took her into his car where she would be safe and called 911. She was transported to Westchester Medical Center.

Rojas was apprehended in Yonkers driving the victim’s car shortly after the stabbing. When interviewed by police, he admitted stabbing the woman. He later directed detectives to the spot where he threw the weapon.
