YONKERS – The northbound Saw Mill River Parkway was closed for almost eight hours after two drivers suffered serious injuries, one breaking a leg, in a crash in Yonkers this morning.
Westchester County police said the northbound side of the parkway reopened around 11 a.m. It had been closed between the Cross County Parkway and the Bronx while police conducted an accident investigation.
The southbound side was briefly closed, as well.
The two-vehicle crash occurred at 3:12 a.m. on the northbound parkway, police said. A 39-year-old Yonkers man was driving a 2008 BMW and a 43-year-old New York City woman was driving a 2008 Volvo, said Kieran O‘Leary, a spokesman for the Westchester County police.
Both drivers had serious injuries, including a broken leg and a neck injury, police said.
Traffic on the southbound Saw Mill parkway, the westbound Cross County Parkway and the southbound state Thruway (Interstate 87) was slow during rush hour.
