PERSONNEL CHANGES: Linda Heyward And The Yonkers Community Action Program (YCAP) Have Parted Ways

Linda Heyward The Former Executive Director Of The Yonkers Community Action Program

YONKERS: Executive Director Linda M. Grace-Heyward had been with the YCAP since 2002 with the goal of advancing the welfare of low-income residents of Yonkers and promoting self-sufficiency for them in the city of hills.

Prior to YCAP, Linda was a member of the IBM Human Resources team, focusing on recruitment, benefits, resource management, and diversity.

LindaHeyward  lives in Yonkers, and always said she was following in the footsteps of her mother, who had been involved in a fair housing study.

Last September the The Yonkers Community Action Program Emergency Food Pantry, cut back from eight distributions a month and now only offers food to the community twice a month – despite being given a new taxpayer funded delivery van and walk in cooler.

This has left many families struggling in County Legislator Christopher A. Johnson and Yonkers City Council Woman Shanae Natalee Williams districts.

Unfortunately, programs for seniors and the youth did a poor job of adapting online during the pandemic.

For over a decade the YCAP Building (Old School 12) at 164 Ashburton Avenue has struggled to stay open without heat, running water or toilets that flush – as water leaks from the roof have caused extensive damage in the three story building.

The YCAP is said to have a taxpayer funded budget that is around a million dollars.
