The Yonkers Firefighters of the International Association of Fire Firefighters (I.A.F.F.) Local 628 will hold a press conference to announce the Yonkers Fire Department’s “FIREFIGHTERS IN PINK” campaign to support Breast Cancer Awareness and to raise money to help find a cure for breast cancer. Several fire engines and trucks will be on hand for the unveiling of the “pink.” The Press Conference will take place on Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at 10:00 a.m., at Yonkers Fire Headquarters, 5-7 New School Street, in Yonkers, NY
As part of the “FIREFIGHTERS IN PINK” campaign, during the week of October 26 – 30, Yonkers Firefighters will trade in their usual blue uniform shirts and instead will be donning bright pink t-shirts. In addition to protecting the lives and property of Yonkers residents as they respond to fires and other emergencies, the Yonkers Firefighters will also be raising awareness of breast cancer.
Local 628 President Barry B. McGoey said, “Sadly, cancer has affected all of us in one way or another and unfortunately breast cancer has directly affected many of our members’ wives, daughters, mothers, sisters, family and friends. The Yonkers Firefighters proudly stand next to women in the fight against breast cancer and hope that our pink t-shirts raise awareness and money for the fight.”
Firefighters will purchase the t-shirts and the proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society. The public may purchase t-shirts for $20 each through Local 628’s office (914) 476 1200. Local 628 is also accepting cash and check donations from the public and all checks and money orders should be made payable to the American Cancer Society and sent directly to the firefighters’ union at PO Box 1071, Yonkers, New York 10703.
