PRESS RELEASE: On Sunday, November 17th, 2019, at approximately 3:58 AM, members of the Yonkers Police Department‘s 3rd Precinct were at the station house located at 435 Riverdale Avenue when they became aware of a commotion outside.

YONKERS: Yonkers Police Department Officers proceeded to investigate and observed a dispute at the Eclipse Bar located at 456 Riverdale Avenue.

As an officer approached, a suspect in front of the bar allegedly displayed a handgun and fired two shots into the bar, striking the front door area.

Police Officers immediately ran towards the shooting scene as the suspect entered the passenger seat in a waiting black Chevrolet Colorado pick-up truck and fled the area; a police pursuit ensued.
Yonkers Police units pursued the Colorado through multiple secondary and tertiary streets in the City, observing numerous infractions including red light and stop sign violations, driving the wrong-way down one-way streets, and unreasonable and dangerous speeds; the Colorado proceeded for a period into the Bronx on the Saw Mill and Mosholu parkways, before making its way back into Yonkers from Broadway, and ultimately crashing at the intersection of South Broadway and Lawrence Street.

Upon crashing, both occupants attempted to flee on foot; the passenger, identified as the shooter, was apprehended by patrol units a short distance away. Investigators are actively working to identify and apprehend the driver of the Colorado.
Detectives from the Major Case Squad and Crime Scene Unit responded to both scenes to interview subjects and witnesses, recover surveillance video, and process forensic and ballistic evidence. Investigation yielded that the shooter was originally inside the bar where a dispute ultimately escalated into violence resulting in the shots fired incident.

No persons were struck by the gunfire and no injuries were reported.

Investigators did recover surveillance video, and the handgun allegedly utilized in the shooting was also recovered – a loaded .32 caliber Taurus model 74 revolver reported stolen out of South Carolina.

Commissioner #JohnMueller stated, “I am immensely proud and grateful for the work our Police Officers do every day, in this case running towards gunfire and danger in order to apprehend a violent individual and remove an illegal handgun from our community; Yonkers is safer today because of their efforts.”
Arrested for the shooting is Tony Orlando SAEZ, a 22-year-old resident of McLean Avenue this City. SAEZ was charged with attempted Assault 1, a Class-B violent felony and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2, a Class-C violent felony in the New York State Penal Law, in addition to other felony charges.
