The Yonkers Police Department wants to crank up the heat and create self-cleaning Ford police cars to kill the coronavirus

BAKE AWAY CORONAVIRUS: The #YonkersPD commissioner is looking to acquire Ford’s solution for killing the COVID-19 virus by heating up the interior of the departments Police Interceptor Utility (PIU) vehicles to 133 degrees.

SANITIZING SOFTWARE: All of the 2013-2019 #YPD‘s PIU vehicles can take advantage of the “software enhancement,” which allows the powertrain and heat control system each vehicle already contains to work together and generate the required heat.

First the engine is allowed to heat up, then the heat and fan settings are set to high. The temperature is then monitored and maintained for 15 minutes once it reaches the desired 133 degrees.
