Yonkers: Car thefts have also been rising dramatically in the city of hills as some car less residents demand that the Yonkers Police Department come up with strategies to fight the crime wave.
Yonkersite’s has seen a huge 69% spike in stolen cars and the city still has four months of reporting to go in 2020.
Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino Jr. reports that 157 cars have been stolen in the first eight months of this year.
The City of Yonkers was followed by Mount Vernon, with 81 vehicle thefts. In nearby municipalities, 28 cars were stolen in White Plains, 23 in Rye and 19 in Harrison.
In the twelve months of 2019, 93 cars were stolen in Yonkers.

According to Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino Jr., “The theft is bad enough, but these vehicles are being used to commit other crimes and endangering the lives of others. Some have been involved in police pursuits resulting in accidents.”
Hondas accounted for the greatest number of thefts in Westchester, followed by Ford automobiles.
The YPD has been reminding residents to keep their cars locked at all times.
